When AI features are enabled for your firm, Gaveli can process the documents you upload so the assistant can read and search them. This is what lets you ask questions about a document's contents.
What processing does
Reads the text of an uploaded document.
Makes it searchable by the AI assistant, so you can ask questions and get answers grounded in the file.

Automatic vs. manual
Under Settings → AI Features, an admin can turn on Automatic Document Processing so every uploaded document is prepared for AI search. With it off, documents can be enabled for processing individually instead.
Good to know
Document processing only happens when AI features are enabled for your firm.
Court orders are summarized automatically and separately — you don't need to do anything for those.
